The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Archdiocese of Newark offers support for Catholic Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts and Adult Leaders through active promotion of both Scouting and Religious values. The Committee supports the Northern New Jersey counties in the Archdiocese of Newark of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union.
The CCOS seeks to provide support to parishes to help Catholic youth participate in Scouting as Youth Ministry. The CCOS reaches out to individual scouts, packs, venture crews, and troops and their families through retreats, adult training and other programming. Central to the mission of CCOS are the religious emblems and awards for Catholic Scouts to grow in their Catholic faith and the ideals of scouting. These programs can be learned about in this brochure and our website.
In addition to the Religious Emblems program the Catholic Committee on Scouting offers opportunities for the Scouts and their adult leaders to experience and grow in their faith.
The CCOS is made up volunteers in Scouting from throughout the Archdiocese. Chuck Mason is the current Committee Chair of the CCOS and works along with Rich and Fr. Eugene Field - Archdiocesan Scouting Chaplain - to help carry out the mission and activities of the CCOS.
